Twenty years ago a software development process could take several months, even a year prior making the first delivery. Today this is beyond unacceptable. The biggest problem with a distributed team in different geographical locations is not culture, but different perspective. How do we align?

Good news MUST be shared, don’t you agree? Yesterday, I received an email titled: “Java Interns officially employed in Singular MK” 👏🏼🥁. Singular offers different types of internships covering all applied technologies from Java and Front-End Developers to DevOps and Quality Assurance (QA) Engineers. While the later are still on-going, the first one is closed with the three interns being officially employed as Junior Java Developers. Nikola and Kristina joined the Sportsbook team, while Daniel become part of the SlotB team.

Writing a good test case is one of the key activities done by Quality Assurance (QA) Engineers in the the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). For that reason, testers should constantly learn and be up-to-date with QA methodologies and software engineering products and projects on which they are working on. There is no secret recipe for good test specification, but I will try to give some guidelines from my perspective and what I’ve learned at Singular so far.

Software development is characterized by dynamic progress, myriad innovations and a variety of business applications. Nevertheless, the team is the key asset of every software development company, the more diverse the better. And when I say diverse I don’t only refer to the diverse technical background, but a diverse point of view. People that can look beyond what is currently on the market and drive innovations.

Don’t just go to a career fair for the sake of being present. Do your homework, research the companies attending, identify the ones that are a perfect match for you. Read recent PR articles related to their work. Familiarize yourself with the brand, the spirit of the company.

This week, I am sharing with you a list of book recommendations about software development that have improved their coding, testing, or management skills of my teammates: 1. The Pragmatic Programmer: from journeyman to master – The Pragmatic Programmer is equally beneficial for someone kick-starting his coding career, but also for an experienced programmer, or a PM. The content gives technical insight, but also practical examples through entertaining and thoughtful anecdotes.

Whether it’s an email notification, FB update, LinkedIn msg, google alert or a missed Viber call, we are exposed to numerous sources of distractions daily that are hard to avoid. No wonder, our monkey-mind is overflowing with scattered thoughts, and the biggest challenge is staying focused on one thing at a time. But don’t be quick to blame it all on modern technology, take responsibility for your own actions.

While the benefits of distributed and culturally diverse teams have been constantly highlighted as essentials for increasing innovation and creativity, they have also been characterised with misunderstandings, missed deadlines and lack of trust among teammates. The problem? Graph 1 can give you a hint.
